About me
William Jansma is a Senior Survey & Alignment Engineer for the Advanced Photon Source (APS)at Argonne National Laboratory. He specializes in the alignment of particle accelerators and experimental facilities, as well as research and development for next-generation accelerator systems and X-ray lasers. His experience spans a wide range of projects at APS and other major accelerator facilities, including the Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator, Fermilab, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, and the Nuclear Science Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame.William joined Argonne in 1992 and served as Chief Technician for the APS Survey and Alignment Group from 2001 to 2009 (2001–2009). In 2019, he accepted the role of Survey and Alignment Technical Lead for the APS Upgrade Project, spearheading alignment efforts for the new 1.1 km storage ring, completed in 2024. He is a long-time contributor to the Coordinate Metrology Society, author of four articles in the Journal of the CMSC, and was among the first to become a CMS Certified 3-D Portable Metrologist in 2013
